Azeitão Wine & Flavors Tour — Tradition, Taste, and the Spirit of Setúbal
A full-day private or small-group journey through the award-winning wineries, historic pastry shops, and authentic flavors of one of Portugal's most celebrated villages.
Azeitão, recognized as one of the Best Tourism Villages in the World 2025 by the UNWTO, is far more than a scenic destination — it is a living testimony to centuries of winemaking heritage, artisan food culture, and genuine Portuguese hospitality rooted in the Setúbal Wine Region.
Nestled between the Serra da Arrábida and the Tagus estuary, Azeitão has long been the cradle of Moscatel de Setúbal and a string of remarkable table wines that have earned international recognition. The village carries the kind of unhurried character that only centuries of tradition can produce, where family recipes and vineyard knowledge pass quietly from one generation to the next.
This full-day tour brings together two wineries of contrasting yet complementary identities, a stop at a historic pastry house, and the singular pleasure of tasting wines whose stories begin long before the bottle is opened. Whether you join as part of a small group or reserve a fully private experience, the day is designed to be immersive, personal, and genuinely memorable.
Every element of the itinerary has been selected to reflect the authentic character of the Setúbal Peninsula — from the oldest Moscatel barrels resting in centuries-old cellars to the crisp, innovative labels emerging from a new generation of Portuguese winemakers.

Tour Itinerary
The tour opens at the legendary pastry house whose origins trace back to 1901, when Manuel Rodrigues and his wife Teresa Prata began crafting the iconic Torta de Azeitão. Today, the fourth generation of the same family continues the original recipe, welcoming visitors to taste one of Portugal's most beloved regional pastries in the very place where it was perfected.
Your guide leads you through the Casa-Museu, a 19th-century manor restored in 1923 by Swiss architect Ernesto Korrodi, which served as the Soares Franco family residence until the 1970s. The visit covers the historic cellars — Adega da Mata, Adega dos Teares Novos, and Adega dos Teares Velhos — where you will encounter Moscatel de Setúbal vintages that are over a century old.
Following the cellar tour, you sit down for a structured wine tasting that includes a curated selection of wines produced by José Maria da Fonseca, including the estate's celebrated Periquita and Moscatel expressions. The tasting is led by a knowledgeable host who contextualizes each wine within the winery's 200-year narrative.
Set against the backdrop of the Arrábida Mountains, Quinta dos Catralvos represents the forward-looking spirit of Portuguese winemaking. The estate spans 25 hectares of vineyards and was designed from the ground up to marry high-quality wine production with a cuisine inspired by the aromas and flavors of the surrounding landscape.
The second tasting of the day invites you to explore the modern, expressive wines produced at Quinta dos Catralvos. This session provides a direct contrast to the historic character of José Maria da Fonseca, illustrating the breadth and innovation currently shaping the Setúbal wine scene.
