Kayak de Mer dans les Calanques de Cassis
Paddle through limestone cliffs, hidden coves, and crystal waters at the heart of the Calanques National Park.
This sea kayak tour in the Calanques de Cassis takes you directly into one of southern France's most protected and spectacular coastal landscapes, revealing sea caves, sheer white cliffs, and turquoise inlets that are inaccessible by any other means. The half-day format is designed to be approachable for all fitness levels, making it a genuine all-seasons activity. A certified guide accompanies the group throughout, providing context on the ecology and geology of the Parc National des Calanques.
The route follows the coastline from Cassis toward the iconic Calanque d'En Vau, passing through Port Miou and Port-Pin along the way. Paddlers slip between rock faces, enter narrow fissures, and skim over shallow reef systems that reward close observation. The kayak format allows for a pace that foot-based hiking along clifftop trails simply cannot replicate.
Sea kayaking here requires no prior experience — the craft is stable, the technique is learned quickly, and the physical effort is comparable to a seated hiking excursion. Groups remain manageable in size, ensuring each participant receives attentive guidance and personal space on the water. The surrounding marine and terrestrial biodiversity of the national park adds a naturalist dimension to every paddle stroke.
The Calanques stretch between Marseille and Cassis, forming a UNESCO-recognized territory of exceptional natural heritage. Launching directly from Cassis places kayakers at the doorstep of the most dramatic fjord-like inlets in the Mediterranean, where limestone dissolves into deep green water and the only sounds are oars and seabirds.

Itinerary
The guide greets participants at the designated launch point in Cassis. Safety briefing, equipment fitting, and a short paddling technique introduction take place before departure.
The group launches into the longest and most navigable of the calanques, a narrow fjord-like inlet carved into white limestone. Paddlers move at a relaxed pace and observe the towering cliff walls on either side.
The route continues to Port-Pin, a wider inlet fringed by Aleppo pines descending to a small pebble beach. The guide points out key geological and ecological features visible from the water.
The highlight of the excursion, En Vau is considered among the most spectacular calanques in the entire park. Kayakers enter through a narrow channel between vertical white cliffs and explore the surrounding caves and rock formations.
The group retraces the coastline back to the departure point at a comfortable pace. The return journey offers different perspectives on the cliffs and the open sea toward the horizon.
