Rophaien Panoramic Peak Above Lake Lucerne
A hidden summit, a breathtaking ridge, and sweeping views over the heart of Switzerland.
This full-day guided excursion takes you from Zurich to the summit of Rophaien (2,078 m), one of Central Switzerland's most rewarding yet lesser-known alpine peaks, rising directly above the shores of Lake Lucerne. The journey combines convenient train travel, forested trails, and a dramatic ridge approach for a complete mountain experience. Suitable for moderately fit hikers, this trip offers genuine alpine scenery without the crowds found on more famous Swiss routes.
From the village of Sisikon on the shores of Lake Lucerne, the trail ascends through dense mountain forests and opens gradually onto wide alpine meadows. The terrain becomes more exposed as you gain elevation along the ridge, rewarding persistent hikers with expanding views over the Urnersee and the surrounding peaks of the Uri and Glarus Alps.
On clear days, the summit panorama extends far across the Central Alps, offering one of the most complete 360-degree views accessible on a single day trip from Zurich. The descent follows the same scenic corridor, returning through forests and meadows before the train ride back to the city.
Throughout the hike, the route passes traditional alpine huts, seasonal wildflower displays, and stretches of ridge path where solitude and silence define the experience. The guide adjusts the trail options based on group fitness and conditions, ensuring the day remains both safe and memorable.

Itinerary
The day begins with a scenic train journey from Zurich toward the shores of Lake Lucerne. The rail route itself passes through attractive Swiss landscapes and sets the tone for the day ahead.
Upon arriving in Sisikon, the group gathers at the trailhead and begins the ascent into the forested lower slopes above the lake. The guide selects the appropriate trail variant based on group fitness and current conditions.
The trail climbs steadily through shaded mountain forest before opening onto broad alpine meadows. This section offers the first wide views back toward Lake Lucerne and the valley floor.
The upper section follows an exposed scenic ridge leading to the Rophaien summit at 2,078 metres. On clear days, the panorama from the top extends across the Uri Alps, the Glarus Alps, and much of Central Switzerland.
After time at the summit, the group descends by foot back through the meadows and forests to Sisikon. The return trail allows hikers to appreciate the landscape from a different perspective.
