Swiss Alps from Zurich Airport: Zermatt, Jungfrau and Hidden Gems
Four days of glacier trails, panoramic gondolas, and alpine stillness beyond the tourist trail
This Swiss Alps guided hiking tour takes you deep into the Saas-Fee valley, a glacier-ringed sanctuary that remains refreshingly uncrowded while offering some of the most dramatic high-altitude scenery in the Alps. Over four days, a local guide leads you across terrain that rewards curiosity over speed.
The journey begins in Lucerne, where you explore the old town and waterfront before heading toward the peaks. An optional ride on the Stoos funicular, the steepest in the world, sets the tone for the engineering marvels woven throughout this itinerary.
From Saas-Grund, gondolas carry you to elevations above 3,200 m, where glacier trails open onto views that stretch across four countries on a clear day. Nights alternate between a comfortable 3-star hotel and a mountain hut at 3,030 m, placing you directly inside the landscape rather than at its edge.
The Metro Alpin, the highest underground funicular on the planet, delivers you to the Mittelallalin station at 3,500 m, where a revolving restaurant completes a panoramic lunch unlike any other in Switzerland. The pace throughout is deliberately measured, making this suitable for fit walkers rather than technical climbers.
