Private Tour of Foz Côa & Douro: Rock Art and Wine

The day begins with a private departure from Porto, heading east through the increasingly open landscape toward Vila Nova de Foz Côa. A brief pause at the Old Pocinho Railway Bridge and the Caminho da Costa Viewpoint introduces the scale and character of the upper Douro corridor before the archaeological visits begin.

The heart of the morning centres on the Côa Valley, where prehistoric engravings at Canada do Inferno can be visited in their original open-air landscape, followed by time at the Côa Museum for interpretive depth and historical context. Both the guided site visit and the museum are selected separately during the booking process.

Lunch is flexible and not included in the base tour, allowing the pace of the afternoon to adapt naturally. The drive toward Pinhão follows the celebrated N222 road, with the Coração do Douro Viewpoint offering a powerful panoramic moment before arrival in the village.

Pinhão invites a slower pace, with the azulejo panels of the railway station and the calm of the waterfront forming a refined cultural pause. Here, guests choose between a winery tasting at one of several estates or a one-hour Douro river cruise aboard a traditional Rabelo boat.

The return journey follows the river through Peso da Régua, with a possible stop at Bagaúste Dam providing a final perspective on the Douro as both landscape and infrastructure. The day ends with a private transfer back to Porto in the early evening.
