Itinerary
Your private driver collects you in Cefalù and heads east toward Mount Etna. The drive crosses varied Sicilian scenery before the volcanic landscape begins to take shape.
The road winds through lava fields and pine forests as you climb to the Sapienza Refuge. Here you will find a bar, shopping area and a large panoramic terrace overlooking eastern Sicily.
From the refuge, a cable car (fee payable on site) rises to 2,500 metres. You may then continue on foot or by off-road vehicle to the crater zone at approximately 2,920 metres.
Your driver brings you to Porta Messina, the gateway to Taormina's pedestrian historic centre. From here you explore the medieval streets, viewpoints and local restaurants at your own pace.
Highlights include the Greek-Roman Theater, Corvaja Palace, the Church of S. Caterina, the Duomo with its fountain, and the panoramic Piazza IX Aprile. Entrance to the theater is charged separately.
