Begin at Nizwa Fort, the iconic round-towered stronghold built in the mid-17th century under the Yaruba dynasty. Walk through its rooms, corridors, and defensive traps before climbing to the top for panoramic views over the ancient town and the Al Hajar Mountains.

Located adjacent to the fort, Nizwa Souq is among Oman's most authentic traditional markets. Browse stalls selling hand-stamped silver khanjar daggers, frankincense, antiques, and locally grown produce in a setting that has changed little over centuries.

Continue to Bahla to observe the traditional pottery craft before reaching Jabrin Castle. This 17th-century fort is regarded as one of Oman's most architecturally refined, notable for its intricately painted ceilings and displays of historic household artifacts.

At the base of Jebel Akhdar, the abandoned village of Birkat Al Mauz and the ancient falaj irrigation channels of Al Kattmyn illustrate how communities once sustained themselves in this arid highland environment. Date palms and banana trees still grow along the waterways.

Ascend to Jebel Akhdar, standing above 2,000 metres, where rose gardens and terraced orchards define the cooler mountain climate. Diana Point provides dramatic views over the deep wadis below and is a natural stop for photography before the return drive to Muscat.
