Tour Itinerary
Check in at the Portisub building next to Portimão Museum at least 30 minutes before departure. After a brief safety and boarding explanation, the boat sets off along the River Arade toward the Atlantic.
The tour passes the charming village of Ferragudo and the Forte de S. João do Arade before crossing the river bar. The Ponta do Altar lighthouse comes into view on the left as the boat meets the open sea.
Cruising eastward, the boat passes Praia da Rocha, Praia Grande, Pintadinho, Caneiros, Afurada, Paraíso, and Carvoeiro, allowing passengers to appreciate the varying textures and colours of the coastline. A stop at the Carvoeiro sea caves offers the first grotto experience of the day.
The highlight of the tour is entering the Algar de Benagil, a cathedral-like sea cave with a natural skylight, ancient rock formations, and a small beach inside. This geological formation is approximately 20 million years old.
The route continues to Praia da Marinha, where the boat navigates beneath the celebrated limestone arches. This beach is currently ranked among the 100 most beautiful in the world.
The boat returns to the Clube Naval de Portimão, where luggage storage, restrooms, and air conditioning are available. On warm days, a swim stop may be included along the return route, subject to sea conditions.
