2-Day Medieval Transylvania Private Tour from Brasov
A journey through fortified Saxon towns, Gothic castles, and UNESCO-listed villages at the heart of Transylvania.
This 2-day private tour of Medieval Transylvania from Brasov takes you through a region where centuries-old castles, fortified churches, and cobblestoned citadels have remained largely unchanged since the Middle Ages. Travelling exclusively with your guide and driver, you move at a pace that allows genuine immersion in each destination.
The route connects some of the most historically significant sites in Romania, including Bran Castle, the hilltop Rupea Fortress, the Saxon village of Viscri, and the remarkably preserved medieval town of Sighisoara. A second day continues with a visit to the Biertan fortified church and the cultural city of Sibiu before returning to Brasov.
Breakfast and dinner are included, along with hotel pickup and drop-off. You spend one night in a guesthouse in Sighisoara or nearby, giving you time to explore the medieval citadel after the day-trip crowds have gone.

Itinerary
Depart Brasov and head first to Bran Castle, where Gothic chambers and legendary stories tied to Vlad the Impaler set a dramatic tone for the tour. Continue to the hilltop Rupea Fortress, a 14th-century defensive structure built on a basalt rock with a 60-metre-deep well inside its walls.
After Rupea, drive to the Saxon village of Viscri, whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed fortified church and rustic lanes reflect centuries of Transylvanian Saxon heritage. The day ends in Sighisoara, where you have free time to wander the cobblestoned streets, the bell tower, and the citadel before an overnight stay in a 3-star guesthouse.
The second day begins with a visit to Biertan, home to one of Transylvania's most impressive Lutheran fortified churches, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the ethnic German Transylvanian Saxon community. From Biertan, continue to Sibiu, a city that served as cultural capital of the region and holds records as the location of Romania's first hospital (1292) and first pharmacy (1494).
In Sibiu, explore the Brukenthal Museum and the ASTRA Open Air Village Museum, the largest ethnographic open-air exhibition in Europe. After a full afternoon in Sibiu, the tour returns to Brasov.
