Lisbon to Porto and Back: A Private Journey Through Portugal's Heritage
Medieval walled towns, Atlantic coastlines, sacred shrines, and granite city streets — all on a single curated route.
This private tour from Lisbon to Porto is designed for travelers who want to experience Portugal's most iconic destinations without navigating crowds or logistics. A dedicated guide and private vehicle connect Lisbon, Óbidos, Alcobaça, Nazaré, Porto, and Fátima across two well-paced days.
The route traces Portugal's cultural spine from the capital northward, passing through a UNESCO World Heritage monastery, a clifftop medieval town, and the surf-famous shores of Nazaré before reaching Porto's riverside quarters. The return leg includes a stop at the internationally recognized Shrine of Fátima, one of the most visited religious sites in the world.
Every element of this itinerary is handled by the operator, from hotel drop-off in Porto after day one to the final return to Lisbon. The private format means the pace and focus can shift based on your interests, whether that is photography, architecture, or time for quiet reflection.

Itinerary
The tour begins with pickup in Lisbon and heads north along the Silver Coast to Óbidos. This walled town, perched on a ridge surrounded by hills, rewards visitors with Gothic archways, Moorish remnants, Renaissance facades, and Baroque churches all compressed into a single walkable historic center.
The route continues to Alcobaça, home to the Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça, a UNESCO-listed Gothic monument founded in the 12th century. Inside, the tomb effigies of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro mark one of the most celebrated and tragic love stories in Portuguese history.
Nazaré is internationally recognized for the giant waves that break off Praia do Norte, attracting big-wave surfers from across the world. The guide will also introduce the town's long history as a pilgrimage site visited by explorers including Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral before their Atlantic voyages.
Day one concludes with arrival in Porto, with a first view of the city from the Serra do Pilar terrace in Vila Nova de Gaia. Guests are then dropped off at their hotel in Porto or Gaia to rest ahead of the following morning's walking tours.
Day two opens with a walking tour covering the Sé Cathedral, the azulejo-lined São Bento train station, and the Ribeira riverside district. A second tour in the upper city visits Livraria Lello, the Clérigos Tower, and the tile-covered Igreja do Carmo, along with the curiosity of the so-called smallest house in the world nearby.
On the road south, the tour stops at the Sanctuary of Fátima, where the 1917 apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary to three shepherd children drew international attention and established the site as one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world. After time to explore the sanctuary grounds, the group continues to Lisbon for the final drop-off.
