Three Shrines Pilgrimage: Fátima, Santiago de Compostela and Nazaré
A 3-day private journey through the sacred heart of Iberia, from medieval villages to the world's most revered Catholic sanctuaries.
This Three Shrines Pilgrimage connects the most significant sacred sites of the Iberian Peninsula across three carefully structured days, combining spiritual depth with Portugal's architectural and cultural heritage.
Departing from Lisbon, the route winds northward through medieval Óbidos, the clifftop sanctuary of Nazaré, and the UNESCO-listed monastery of Alcobaça before reaching Porto, your two-night base. From there, the journey crosses into Spain for a visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the legendary terminus of the Camino de Santiago, before returning for a final stop at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima on the way back to Lisbon.
Private transport ensures comfort and flexibility throughout, while an expert guide provides historical and spiritual context at every stop. Hotels are not included in the tour price, giving travelers full freedom to select accommodations suited to their preferences, with two nights in Porto recommended as the central base.
Tour Highlights
Visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, one of the most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world, including the Chapel of the Apparitions and both basilicas.
Explore the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the spiritual destination of the Camino de Santiago, and pay respects at the tomb of the Apostle Saint James.
Discover the clifftop Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré and overlook Praia do Norte, world-renowned for its record-breaking big waves formed by a rare underwater canyon.
Tour the Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage site and masterpiece of Cistercian Gothic architecture housing the royal tombs of Portuguese medieval monarchs.
Walk the cobblestone streets of medieval Óbidos, the fortified village known as the City of the Queens, with its whitewashed houses and intact castle walls.
Enjoy a traditional Six Bridges boat cruise along the Douro River in Porto, with an optional Port Wine tasting at one of the city's celebrated wine cellars.
Stop at Valença, a well-preserved border fortress city offering panoramic views across the Minho River into Spain before the final approach to Santiago de Compostela.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
The journey begins with a stop in Óbidos, a medieval walled village whose fortified lanes and royal history set the tone for the days ahead. The route then climbs to the clifftop district of O Sítio in Nazaré, where the ancient Marian sanctuary overlooks the Atlantic coast and the famous big-wave beach below.
The afternoon is dedicated to the Monastery of Alcobaça, a sprawling 12th-century Cistercian complex and UNESCO World Heritage site, before the group continues north to Porto for the first overnight stay.
Departing Porto, the group stops briefly in Valença, a well-preserved fortified city on the Portuguese-Spanish border, before crossing into Galicia. The visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela forms the spiritual centerpiece of the entire pilgrimage, with time to visit the apostle's tomb, witness the Botafumeiro, and experience the atmosphere of the Plaza del Obradoiro.
The group returns to Porto for a second overnight rest after a full day across the border.
The final day opens with a guided walking tour of Porto's historic center, covering its iconic landmarks and lesser-known corners, followed by a Six Bridges boat cruise on the Douro River and an optional Port Wine tasting. The group then heads south toward Fátima for the concluding pilgrimage stop.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima offers a reflective conclusion to the journey, with visits to the Chapel of the Apparitions and the basilicas. A scenic return drive brings travelers back to Lisbon by the end of the afternoon.
