Pedra da Gavea Trail: Rio de Janeiro's Ultimate Summit Experience
Conquer the world's largest coastal monolith and witness a breathtaking 360-degree panorama above the city.
The Pedra da Gavea Trail is one of the most iconic and demanding hikes in Brazil, leading adventurers through the lush Atlantic Forest of Tijuca National Park to the summit of the world's largest sea-level monolith. This private, guided six-hour experience rewards every step with dramatic scenery, geological wonder, and an unmatched aerial view of Rio de Janeiro.
The route winds through dense native forest, climbing steeply over roots, boulders, and natural rock formations before reaching the most technical section of the ascent. Your certified local guide accompanies you throughout, sharing knowledge about the region's biodiversity, cultural history, and geological significance while ensuring safe passage across every demanding passage.
At the summit, hikers stand above São Conrado, Barra da Tijuca, and the entire Zona Sul, with the Atlantic Ocean stretching to the horizon on one side and the forested mountain range rolling inland on the other. The descent follows the same path, allowing time to pause, photograph, and absorb details that speed and adrenaline may have masked on the way up.
