Heli-Touring Getaway: Two Days of Off-Piste Skiing and Backcountry Adventure in Iceland
Charge untouched terrain by helicopter, then earn your turns through Iceland's remote mountain wilderness.
This Iceland heli-touring weekend is designed for skiers who want both the thrill of helicopter-accessed descents and the rewarding effort of genuine backcountry touring across terrain that is completely inaccessible by any other means.
Summit Heliskiing has built this two-day programme to deliver contrasting but complementary experiences. Day one is devoted to maximising helicopter runs across Iceland's finest off-piste terrain, while day two shifts the focus to self-propelled touring through remote mountain zones that few skiers ever witness.
Between the two days, guests return to Sóti Lodge for a carefully considered recovery sequence, including a geothermal flotation treatment, a sauna session, and a three-course dinner enjoyed under the extended northern daylight. The transition from adrenaline to restoration and back again is a deliberate part of what makes this particular weekend stand apart.
North Iceland's topography offers a rare combination of glaciated ridgelines, wide open bowls, and steep couloirs, all sitting within a landscape of dramatic volcanic geology. The helicopter access transforms what would otherwise be multi-day expeditions into achievable single-day objectives, while still preserving the genuine wilderness character of each run.
Tour Highlights
Full first day of helicopter-assisted off-piste skiing on Iceland's premier backcountry terrain.
Geothermal flotation pool treatment for genuine post-ski recovery at Sóti Lodge.
Second day ski touring through remote mountain zones accessible only via helicopter drop-off.
Three-course dinner in the long Arctic evening light, served at the lodge between the two active days.
Expert mountain guides with deep knowledge of north Iceland's terrain, snowpack, and conditions.
Touring routes through areas with no road or trail access, offering genuine backcountry solitude.
Energising breakfast buffet on day two before departing for the touring component of the programme.
Itinerary
Guests meet at the designated helipad for a full safety and terrain briefing from Summit Heliskiing's guides. The helicopter then begins ferrying the group to the top of Iceland's premier off-piste zones for the first descents of the day.
The afternoon continues the helicopter rotation, allowing guests to ski as many varied lines as conditions and daylight permit. Routes are selected by guides based on snowpack assessments and group ability.
Guests return to Sóti Lodge for a geothermal flotation treatment and sauna session designed to accelerate muscle recovery. The evening concludes with a three-course dinner served in the extended Arctic evening light.
An energising breakfast buffet is served at the lodge before guests prepare their touring equipment. Guides review the day's planned route and conduct a final avalanche safety check.
The helicopter drops guests at a remote mountain location chosen for its touring potential and scenic character. From that point, the group travels entirely under their own power, skinning through terrain that sees virtually no other visitors.
After completing the touring circuit, guests make their final descent and are collected or guided back to the lodge or departure point. The day ends with the satisfaction of having genuinely earned the last turns of the weekend.
