Ieranto Bay & Punta Campanella Trekking Weekend
Two days of coastal trails, limestone descents, and ancient towers on one of southern Italy's most dramatic coastlines.
This two-day Ieranto Bay and Punta Campanella trekking weekend takes you through a FAI-protected marine reserve, along CAI-marked mountain paths, and to a lighthouse that has guided sailors since antiquity. The routes combine rugged Mediterranean terrain with moments of stillness beside the sea.
On the first day, the walk departs from the Piazzetta di Nerano and winds through Mediterranean scrub, past wild fig trees and exposed limestone outcrops, toward Punta Penna and the historic Montalto Tower. The path then passes through the FAI reserve and arrives at the beach of Capitiello, where the clear waters invite a pause before the return along the same trail.
The second day follows the CAI 300 path through the Lattari Mountains, beginning in the pine forest of San Costanzo and descending steeply through the Pezzalonga section. The route culminates at the tower and lighthouse of Punta Campanella, continues via Minerva to Termini, and finishes with an ascent to the summit of Monte San Costanzo.
Both days are rated challenging and require a reasonable level of fitness, appropriate footwear, and awareness of exposed trail sections. A refreshment point is available in Termini on the second day.

Itinerary
The walk begins at the Piazzetta di Nerano and enters the landscape of the Bay of Ieranto, a protected marine area managed by the FAI. The trail passes through Mediterranean scrub, wild fig trees, and rocky ground typical of this stretch of the Sorrento coast.
The path climbs to Punta Penna and the Montalto Tower, offering views across the bay and toward the islands. The route then descends through the FAI reserve to the beach of Capitiello for a rest stop and optional swim.
Starting from the pine forest of San Costanzo, the group joins the CAI 300 path and moves through the Lattari Mountains. After a brief exposed section, the trail drops steeply down Pezzalonga, a demanding limestone descent requiring careful footing.
The tower and lighthouse of Punta Campanella mark the midpoint of the second day, providing a natural pause for rest and reflection. The site sits at the tip of the peninsula where the Gulf of Naples meets the Gulf of Salerno.
The return follows the ancient via Minerva to the village of Termini, where a refreshment stop is available. From Termini, a staircase path leads back up to the summit of Monte San Costanzo to complete the circuit.
