          Castellammare di Stabia is a coastal municipality in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania, southern Italy, situated on the southeastern shore of the Bay of Naples at the base of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The ancient city of Stabiae, buried by the 79 CE eruption of Vesuvius, lay within the modern town's territory and is represented today by two excavated Roman villa complexes managed under the Pompeii Archaeological Park authority.
