Lagoinha do Leste Hiking and Photography Adventure
A challenging trail through Atlantic Forest to Florianopolis' most celebrated natural landmark
The Lagoinha do Leste hiking trail takes you through a protected natural park in southern Florianopolis, combining wildlife observation, panoramic summit views, and a pristine beach reachable only on foot or by boat.
The journey begins at Pantano do Sul, a traditional fishing neighborhood known for its authentic restaurants and unhurried atmosphere. Before setting out, your guide introduces the native species you may encounter along the trail, including howler monkeys, toucans, and blue jays, grounding your experience in the local ecology before you take a single step into the forest.
The trail climbs through dense Atlantic Forest to the summit of Morro da Coroa, an ancient volcanic formation that serves as the city's most recognizable natural viewpoint. The descent brings you down to Lagoinha do Leste beach, one of the most remote stretches of coastline in Florianopolis, where a warm-water lagoon provides a welcome rest before the return hike.
Guides Isaac, a historian, and Andrey, a professional photographer, lead the experience with complementary expertise, offering both cultural context and practical guidance on capturing the landscape. The trail covers approximately 6 km in total and is rated challenging, requiring solid physical fitness and no significant health restrictions.

Itinerary
The group meets at Pantano do Sul beach, a traditional fishing village in southern Florianopolis. Your guide presents photos of the local wildlife and plants you may encounter, preparing you for observation along the trail ahead.
The hike enters Lagoinha do Leste Natural Park, following a trail through native Atlantic Forest. This section offers opportunities for birdwatching and spotting primates among the dense vegetation.
After approximately two hours of hiking, the trail reaches Morro da Coroa, an ancient volcanic formation and the city's most iconic viewpoint. The group pauses here for a guided photography session overlooking the southern coastline of Florianopolis.
The descent from Morro da Coroa leads to Lagoinha do Leste beach, the most remote and undeveloped beach in Florianopolis. A small freshwater lagoon adjacent to the beach offers calmer and warmer conditions for swimming.
The return journey follows a 2 km forest trail back to the starting point, with an optional boat transfer available through the local fishermen association when sea conditions permit. Boat pricing is set independently by the association and is not included in the tour.
The tour concludes at Pantano do Sul, where guides share their recommendations for the neighborhood's best traditional restaurants. This fishing community is considered home to some of the most authentic seafood dining in Florianopolis.
