Private Algarve Full-Day Tour: Silves, Carvoeiro, Lagos and Cabo Sao Vicente
One day, four iconic destinations, the entire soul of southern Portugal
This private Algarve full-day tour takes you through the region's most striking landscapes, from a medieval hilltop castle to dramatic Atlantic sea cliffs, across a full 12-hour journey designed for small groups of up to eight people.
The Algarve is one of Europe's most celebrated coastal regions, and its appeal goes well beyond the beaches. Ancient fortifications, carved limestone cliffs, fishing harbours, and windswept capes tell a layered story that a single destination cannot convey on its own.
This itinerary connects four distinct corners of the region, giving travellers a genuine sense of the Algarve's geography, history, and natural character within a single day. The private format means the pace and focus adapt to your group rather than a fixed crowd.
Tour Highlights
Explore Silves Castle, a remarkably preserved Moorish citadel overlooking the Arade river valley.
Walk the Carvoeiro clifftops and discover sculpted sandstone formations meeting the Atlantic.
Stroll freely around Lagos marina and explore the historic old town at your own rhythm.
Stand at Ponta da Piedade, where golden rock arches and sea caves form one of the Algarve's most iconic seascapes.
Reach Cabo Sao Vicente, the southwestern tip of continental Europe, crowned by a working lighthouse above sheer Atlantic cliffs.
Travel in a private vehicle with full flexibility for stops, photos, and pace adjustments throughout the day.
Optional boat excursion at Carvoeiro lets you view the sea caves and arches from the water level.
Itinerary
The day begins with a stop at Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. The red sandstone castle dominates the hilltop and offers sweeping views across orange groves and the Arade valley below. Time is allocated to walk the ramparts and explore the historic city centre.
The route continues to the Carvoeiro coastline, where ochre limestone cliffs drop sharply to clear turquoise water. An optional boat excursion is available here at an additional cost, taking you inside the sea caves and through natural rock arches that are inaccessible from land.
Free time at Lagos marina allows the group to walk along the waterfront, browse the old town streets, and stop for lunch independently. Lagos combines a vibrant port atmosphere with well-preserved historic walls and a compact city centre worth exploring on foot.
Just south of Lagos, Ponta da Piedade presents a series of golden rock stacks, grottos, and arched passages carved by centuries of Atlantic erosion. The clifftop walkways provide exceptional viewpoints over the formations, making this one of the most photographed natural sites in southern Portugal.
The day closes at Cabo Sao Vicente, the most southwesterly point of continental Europe. The Cape Saint Vincent lighthouse stands at the edge of dramatic cliffs above the open Atlantic, and the viewpoint offers a perspective found nowhere else in Portugal. Sunset from this cape, when timing allows, is particularly striking.
