Cinque Terre Hiking Small Group Tour from La Spezia Port
Trail the ancient clifftop paths linking four legendary fishing villages above the Ligurian Sea.
This Cinque Terre hiking tour from La Spezia port is a full-day small-group adventure designed for cruise passengers who want to experience the region's dramatic coastal trails and centuries-old villages in a single, well-guided day. An expert tour leader accompanies the group from port to trail, handling logistics so participants can focus entirely on the landscape.
The route covers some of the most rewarding terrain in the Italian Riviera, moving through vineyards carved into near-vertical rock faces, along ridgelines with unobstructed views of the Mediterranean, and down into villages that have changed little in outward appearance over centuries. The difficulty is rated challenging, meaning the trail involves sustained elevation gain and uneven surfaces that reward preparation.
Four of the five Cinque Terre villages feature on the itinerary: Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Riomaggiore. Each has a distinct character, from Corniglia perched more than 100 metres above the sea to Vernazza's well-preserved harbour front, giving the day genuine variety beyond the hiking itself.

Itinerary
The tour leader meets the group at the port and leads a walking transfer through La Spezia's colourful city centre to the train station. The walk provides an introductory look at this working port city before the day's main hiking begins.
The group boards the regional train to Manarola, the starting point for the hiking section of the tour. From here, the trail climbs through terraced vineyards set into the rocky hillside, with the sea visible below throughout the ascent.
The trail crests the ridge before descending into Corniglia, situated more than 100 metres above sea level. Time in the village allows for a walk through its narrow lanes and a break before the afternoon segment of the tour.
After lunch, the group travels by train to Vernazza, a village that has retained the character of a traditional Ligurian fishing port more fully than most. Free time here allows independent exploration of the harbour and waterfront.
The final village on the itinerary is Riomaggiore, where the group visits a panoramic terrace offering views over the Gulf of Cinque Terre. Free time in the village allows for a walk through its steeply stacked streets.
The group returns by train to La Spezia and walks back to the port along the same city-centre route taken in the morning. This allows sufficient time for cruise passengers to reboard before departure.
