Beijing in 4 Days: Great Wall, Ming Tombs & Imperial Heritage
A private guided journey through China's ancient capital, from the Great Wall of Mutianyu to the heart of the Forbidden City.
This Beijing private city break offers a carefully balanced four-day itinerary that pairs structured guided excursions with free time to discover the city at your own rhythm. Designed for travelers who value flexibility alongside expert local insight, the tour is led by a Spanish-speaking guide and keeps group size to a private setting throughout.
Beijing stands as one of the world's most layered capital cities, where centuries-old hutong alleyways run alongside contemporary boulevards, and where imperial architecture remains an everyday backdrop. Over four days, you will move between the grandeur of the Forbidden City, the philosophical calm of the Sacred Way, and the sheer scale of the Great Wall.
The itinerary is structured to avoid the most congested periods at key sites. Mutianyu, chosen over more touristed sections of the Wall, provides a more contemplative experience without sacrificing historical authenticity. The Sacred Way and the Dingling Tomb underground palace round out a rich picture of Ming Dynasty culture.
Free days are genuinely free, with optional excursions available for those who prefer a fuller program. Whether you choose to wander Beihai Park, explore the Panjiayuan antiques market, or simply sit in a hutong teahouse, Beijing rewards curiosity at every corner.
Tour Highlights
Walk through the Forbidden City, the best-preserved imperial palace complex in China, spanning 180 acres of Ming Dynasty architecture.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your driver meets you at Beijing Capital Airport and transfers you to your hotel. The afternoon is free to rest, or you may join an optional excursion to the Temple of Heaven, where the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvests and the Echo Wall illustrate the Ming conception of the cosmos. The surrounding park remains a living social space where residents gather for calligraphy, chess, singing, and the informal matchmaking corner known locally as the Corner of Love.
After breakfast, the day belongs entirely to you. Wander the hutongs independently, browse Panjiayuan market, or find a quiet bench in Jingshan or Beihai Park. For those who prefer a structured option, the Beijing City Tour departs from the hotel at 08:30 and covers Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Coal Hill Park, a cyclo-rickshaw ride through the hutongs, and an evening visit to the Silk Market and The Place district.
The day begins with an 80 km drive north to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, where restored towers and dense forest create an atmosphere distinct from the more crowded sections closer to the city. Ascent and descent can be made on foot or by cable car. After lunch nearby, the afternoon takes you to the Sacred Way, whose stone statues of animals and officials mark the ceremonial approach to the Ming Tombs. The visit concludes underground in the Dingling Tomb's burial palace.
A final breakfast at the hotel is followed by free time before your driver collects you for the return transfer to Beijing Capital Airport. Check-out and departure times will be coordinated with your guide based on your flight schedule.
