516 Arouca Bridge, Paiva Walkways and Aveiro Tour
One day. Three iconic destinations. An experience northern Portugal will not let you forget.
This full-day tour brings together the drama of the 516 Arouca Suspension Bridge, the natural beauty of the Paiva Walkways, and the canal-lined streets of Aveiro into a single, carefully structured day trip from Porto.
Few itineraries in northern Portugal manage to combine an adrenaline-inducing crossing, a riverside nature hike, a regional lunch, and a coastal city visit without feeling rushed. This tour does exactly that, with hotel pick-up and drop-off included so logistics stay simple.
The route moves through the Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark before finishing in Aveiro, giving travelers a layered look at the landscapes, food traditions, and architectural character of this corner of Portugal. The moderate difficulty level makes it suitable for most active travelers looking for a genuine outdoor and cultural experience.

Itinerary
The day begins with a comfortable pick-up directly from your accommodation in Porto. The drive takes you south-east toward the Arouca region through rolling hills and river valleys.
Before heading into the Geopark, the group stops in Arouca town for a tasting of local conventual sweets at a traditional bakery. These confections trace their origin to the convent traditions of the region.
The crossing of the 516 Arouca Bridge is the most physically striking moment of the day. At 175 meters above the Paiva River, the views over cliffs, waterfalls, and forested gorges are exceptional.
A guided walk along approximately 4 km of wooden boardwalks follows the bridge crossing. The route runs alongside the Paiva River and passes through some of the most scenic terrain in the Geopark.
Midday brings a sit-down lunch featuring vitela assada no forno, a slow-roasted regional veal dish, served with Vinho Verde. This is a genuine taste of northern Portuguese food culture.
The afternoon is spent in Aveiro, where travelers can explore the canal district on foot or opt for a moliceiro boat ride at an extra cost. The group then returns to Porto with drop-off at each accommodation.
