Akureyri: Forest Lagoon and Whale Watching
Geothermal warmth meets the open fjord on this full-day adventure in the heart of North Iceland.
This Forest Lagoon and Whale Watching tour pairs a restorative soak in geothermal waters with an exciting sea expedition along Eyjafjörður, giving visitors a complete portrait of what makes Akureyri one of Iceland's most rewarding destinations.
The Forest Lagoon sits within Vaðlaskógur forest above the town, offering warm pools, a sauna, and cold plunge facilities set against panoramic views of Eyjafjörður. The setting is calm, the landscape striking, and the experience genuinely restorative.
From the harbour, a whale watching cruise ventures out onto one of Iceland's longest fjords in search of humpback whales, minke whales, and other marine wildlife. Expert guides share insight into local ecology, history, and the behaviours of the animals encountered along the way.
The two experiences complement each other well: one grounded in stillness and natural warmth, the other in open water and discovery. Together they make for a well-rounded five-hour introduction to the landscapes and wildlife of the north.

Time is spent soaking in warm geothermal pools while looking out over the expanse of Eyjafjörður. The sauna and cold plunge facilities are also available during this session.
After the lagoon experience, guests make their way down to the harbour in Akureyri to board the whale watching vessel.
The boat departs for a 2.5 to 3.5 hour cruise along the fjord. Guides point out whale sightings and share knowledge about local wildlife, ecology, and the surrounding landscape.
