Siwa Oasis Private 3-Day Sahara Safari with Salt Lakes and Springs
Three days of desert solitude, ancient temples, and natural wonders in Egypt's most remote oasis.
This Siwa Oasis private safari takes you deep into Egypt's Western Desert across three carefully structured days, combining 4x4 dune adventures, salt lake swims, hot spring soaks, and visits to millennia-old monuments in one seamless journey.
Collected from Cairo or Giza in a private, air-conditioned vehicle, you travel west past Marsa Matrouh toward one of the planet's most storied oases. A local guide provides context throughout the drive, so the landscape becomes legible long before you arrive.
Once at Siwa, a Land Cruiser becomes your transport into the Great Sand Sea for dune bashing and sandboarding, followed by a night at a desert hot spring camp under an open sky thick with stars. The pace balances activity with genuine rest, and every accommodation reflects the oasis's distinct ecolodge aesthetic.
By day three, after a walking tour of Siwa town, the return journey to Cairo closes a circuit that covers Roman-era tombs, Ptolemaic oracle temples, Berber salt architecture, and some of the most isolated natural lakes in North Africa.
Tour Highlights
Dune bashing and sandboarding across the Great Sand Sea with an experienced local 4x4 crew.
Swimming in a cold natural desert lake hidden within the dunes, followed by a rinse with provided mineral water.
Soaking in a hot spring fed by water rising from approximately one thousand meters underground.
Guided visit to the Temple of the Oracle of Amun, where Alexander the Great reportedly sought divine counsel.
Floating in Siwa's high-salinity salt lakes, with fresh juice and a mineral water shower provided on site.
Overnight stargazing and meditation session at the hot spring desert camp, far from any light pollution.
Walking tour of Old Shali fortress and a visit to the Siwan House museum to understand local Berber culture and heritage.
Itinerary
Depart Cairo or Giza by private air-conditioned vehicle. After a rest stop and breakfast in Marsa Matrouh, continue along the desert highway with a second rest stop before reaching Fatnas Island in time for tea at sunset. Transfer to the hotel for an early rest after the long transit day.
Board a 4x4 Land Cruiser and enter the Great Sand Sea for dune bashing and sandboarding. Stop to swim in a cold natural desert lake, then reach the hot spring camp for a sunset dinner. Spend the night at the camp under a star-filled sky.
After breakfast, visit the Mountain of the Dead, the Temple of the Oracle of Amun, and Dakrour Mountain with guide commentary. Float in the salt lakes, watch the sunset from Fitnas Island with fresh juice, explore the Siwan House museum, and walk through the ruins of Old Shali fortress. Overnight at Panta Lodge or a similar ecolodge property.
A morning walking tour of Siwa town rounds out the cultural experience. The return drive to Cairo includes two rest stops and takes approximately eight hours, concluding the journey at your original pickup point.
