Small Group Kayak Tour along Sesimbra – Arrábida Natural Park
Paddle the protected coastline, discover hidden sea caves, and reach one of Portugal's most iconic beaches by kayak.
This small group kayak tour in Arrábida Natural Park takes you along a striking limestone coastline where crystal-clear Atlantic waters meet ancient cliffs and secluded coves. Limited to five tandem kayaks per departure, the experience is designed for genuine connection with the landscape rather than a crowded outing.
Departing from the historic village of Sesimbra, the route follows the natural park's protected shoreline southward, passing through narrow rock passages and small sea caves that are inaccessible by land. The geology here is dramatic and well-preserved, a result of decades of strict environmental protection within the Arrábida Natural Park.
After roughly ninety minutes of paddling, the group arrives at Ribeiro do Cavalo, a beach consistently cited among the most scenic in Portugal. The stop allows time to rest, take in the landscape, and enjoy a snack before the return paddle with the prevailing tailwind back to Sesimbra.
Guides are trained in both paddling safety and the natural history of the park, offering context on the local flora, marine life, and ongoing conservation work throughout the tour. No prior kayaking experience is required, and all safety and paddling fundamentals are covered in a thorough briefing at the start.

Tour Itinerary
The tour begins in the village of Sesimbra, where guides introduce the group to paddle techniques, safety procedures, and the day's route. All equipment is fitted and distributed at this stage.
The group sets off from Sesimbra, paddling south along the base of the Arrábida cliffs. The water here is calm, clear, and sheltered, making it accessible for first-time kayakers.
As the group progresses along the coast, guides lead the way through a series of small caves and natural rock passages carved into the limestone cliffs. These formations are among the most memorable sections of the tour.
After approximately ninety minutes of paddling, the group reaches Ribeiro do Cavalo beach for a rest stop. This is an opportunity to swim, explore on foot, and take in the surrounding scenery.
An optional food package is available for purchase, featuring a chicken or vegetarian baguette, fresh avocado, and the traditional Portuguese pastry known as Farinha Torrada. Participants may also bring their own snacks stored in the provided waterproof bags.
Taking advantage of the prevailing tailwind, the group paddles back along the coastline to Sesimbra. Guides provide additional commentary on the park's ecology and history during the return journey.
