The tour opens in the cobbled heart of Sintra, a medieval village that once served as the summer seat of the Portuguese royal court. Guests walk among historic facades, view the exterior of the National Palace, and sample the town's celebrated sweets before continuing uphill.

Pena Palace stands at the summit of the Sintra hills, its yellow and red ramparts rising above a dense canopy of exotic trees. Built by King Consort Dom Fernando II following his marriage to Queen Dona Maria II, the palace blends Gothic, Manueline, and Romanticist elements across its richly themed interior rooms.

Constructed between 1904 and 1910 for millionaire António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, Quinta da Regaleira is a layered estate of neo-Gothic and Manueline architecture, grottos, ornamental lakes, and underground tunnels. The Initiation Well, a spiral staircase descending into the earth, remains the estate's most iconic and mysterious feature.

The route follows the coast to a viewpoint overlooking Guincho Beach and the rocky headland of Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. From this vantage, the Atlantic stretches to the horizon, and on clear days the surf conditions at Guincho are visible below.

Cascais retains much of the character it held when King Dom Luís and Queen Dona Maria Pia de Saboia first established it as a royal summer destination in the 19th century. The group stops here for lunch and a walk through streets lined with painted tile facades, local fish restaurants, and Atlantic-facing promenades.

The return to Lisbon passes through Estoril, where the tour pauses briefly at Casino Estoril. The building served as a gathering point for wartime spies and exiled aristocrats during World War II, an atmosphere that directly inspired Ian Fleming when he conceived the character of James Bond.
