Tour Itinerary
Built in 1537 on the western side of the ramparts, Pile Gate served as a primary defensive entrance to the old town. The gate was closed each night to prevent unauthorized entry, and crossing it today still feels like a deliberate threshold into another era.
Stradun stretches roughly 300 meters across the full width of the old town, lined with uniform stone facades rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake. Near its western end stands the large Onofrio Fountain, constructed in the 15th century to solve the city's drinking water shortage despite its thriving Mediterranean trade economy.
