Kayaking in Río Celeste
Paddle through one of Costa Rica's most vivid natural waterways on a guided class 1 kayaking journey.
This Río Celeste kayaking tour takes you along the calm, turquoise-tinted waters of one of Costa Rica's most iconic rivers, where volcanic minerals give the water its extraordinary blue hue. Guided by experienced naturalists, you will explore a stretch of class 1 rapids suitable for all paddling levels. The journey combines gentle river travel with opportunities to observe pristine lowland rainforest ecosystems up close.
The route follows the lower section of Río Celeste through lush vegetation that shelters a remarkable diversity of birds, reptiles, and plant life. Your naturalist guide will point out species along the riverbanks and explain the geological phenomena responsible for the river's distinctive coloration. This combination of natural science and paddling makes the experience genuinely informative as well as enjoyable.
At select points along the route, participants have the opportunity to jump into and swim in the clear, cool waters of the river. The purity of the water and the surrounding forest canopy create a setting that is difficult to replicate elsewhere in Central America. The pace is relaxed, giving you time to absorb the environment rather than simply pass through it.
The tour is designed to be accessible to beginners and those with limited kayaking experience. Equipment is provided and guides offer basic instruction before departure. No prior paddling knowledge is required to participate safely and comfortably.
