Tour To Historical Cairo Mosques
Walk through centuries of Islamic architecture along one of the world's most storied historic corridors.
This Historical Cairo Mosques Tour is a private, guided walking experience through the heart of Islamic Cairo, connecting landmark mosques, ancient city gates, and living bazaars that have defined Egypt's capital for over a millennium.
Your journey opens at the Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulun, the oldest mosque still standing intact in Egypt, before threading through Bab Zuwayla and the celebrated Street of Muezz. Along this route, the architecture of successive Islamic dynasties unfolds in close sequence, from Fatimid city walls to Mamluk mausoleums.
The tour moves at a measured pace suited to all fitness levels, combining dedicated walking segments with vehicle transfers. A stop at a local restaurant for lunch is included, giving you time to reflect on the morning's discoveries before continuing into the afternoon.

Itinerary
A representative will collect you from your Cairo hotel by air-conditioned vehicle and transfer you to the Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulun. Built in the ninth century, this is the oldest mosque in Egypt to survive in its original form, featuring a distinctive spiral minaret and a vast open courtyard.
Your walking tour begins at Bab Zuwayla, the southern gate of Fatimid Cairo, and continues north along Al-Muizz Street. En route you will visit the Al-Khayammeyah tentmakers' market, the Mosque-Mausoleum of Sultan al-Mu'ayyad Shaykh, and the Sabil-Kuttab of Tusun Pasha.
The route passes the Mosque of Al-Azhar, one of the oldest universities in the world, before arriving at Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Spend time exploring its densely packed stalls of spices, leather goods, jewellery, and handicrafts, with bargaining a customary part of the experience.
Walk from the twin-towered Bab el-Fotouh through to Bab al-Nasr, two of the best-preserved Fatimid fortified gates in the city. This northern stretch offers a clear sense of medieval Cairo's defensive layout.
Visit the Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan, then continue to the madrasa and mausoleum of Sultan al-Mansur Qalawun and the Madrasa-Khanqah of Sultan Barquq. A lunch stop at a local restaurant is included before or after this segment.
Your guide will lead you through the Mosque of Al-Aqmar and the Museum of Islamic Textiles, followed by a visit to a well-preserved historic Cairo residence. After the final stop, a vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel.
