Avila and Segovia Private Minivan Tour from Madrid
Two UNESCO World Heritage cities, one unforgettable day journey through Castilian history and Roman engineering
This private day tour to Avila and Segovia from Madrid takes you through two of Spain's most historically significant cities, combining medieval cathedrals, ancient Roman infrastructure, and royal castles in a single well-paced itinerary. The tour departs from a pick-up point of your choosing in Madrid and returns you there at the end of the day.
Avila, enclosed by its remarkably preserved 11th-century walls, offers a concentrated experience of Romanesque and Gothic heritage. The Cathedral, the convents linked to Santa Teresa de Jesus, and the sweeping view from the Monument of the Four Posts form a coherent narrative of how this walled city shaped medieval Castile.
Segovia adds a different dimension, where a first-century Roman aqueduct stands alongside a 16th-century cathedral and a fairytale-like Alcazar that has served as a royal residence, prison, and artillery academy over the centuries. Lunch near the Plaza Mayor gives you time to absorb the city at your own pace before continuing the tour.

Itinerary
The tour begins at your selected pick-up point in Madrid. During the drive toward Avila, you will pass the Cross of the Fallen and enjoy views of the Guadarrama mountain range stretching across the Castilian plateau.
In Avila, the group visits the Cathedral, a fortified Gothic structure built between the 12th and 14th centuries. The walk continues through the Plaza del Mercado Chico, past the Church of San Juan Bautista where Santa Teresa de Jesus was baptized, and on to the Convent of Santa Teresa and the adjacent hall of relics.
Before leaving Avila, the group stops at the Monument of the Four Posts on the outskirts of the city. The four granite columns framing the city provide an excellent vantage point for photographs of Avila and its surrounding countryside.
The approximately 50-minute drive brings the group to Segovia, arriving near the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. Free time is provided here for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants.
After lunch, the tour continues on foot to the Roman Aqueduct, whose granite arches rise over the city center and date to the 1st century AD. The visit then moves to the Alcazar, the hilltop castle that has served successively as royal palace, state prison, and artillery academy over its centuries of history.
From the Segovia Aqueduct, the group boards the minivan for the return drive to Madrid, approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, arriving back at the original departure point.
