Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor West Bank
A bird's eye journey above one of the world's greatest open-air archaeological museums at the break of dawn.
A hot air balloon ride over Luxor offers a perspective on ancient Egypt that no ground-level tour can replicate — the temples, valleys, and colossi spread beneath you in silent, sweeping panorama as the sun rises over the Nile.
The West Bank of Luxor holds some of humanity's most significant monuments, including the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Valley of the Queens, and the Colossi of Memnon. Viewing them from altitude at sunrise reveals the spatial relationships between these sites in a way that maps and guidebooks simply cannot convey.
Hotel pickup, round-trip transfers, a light breakfast, and an on-board English-speaking guide are all included. The experience is rated easy and is suitable for most travelers willing to greet the morning sky above one of the ancient world's greatest cities.
A professional video recording of the flight is also available, providing a lasting record of the landscapes and monuments seen during the journey.
Tour Highlights
Aerial views of the Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut, Valley of the Queens, and the Colossi of Memnon from a single flight path.
Flights depart at sunrise, when desert light is at its most dramatic and temperatures are cool.
Optional professional video of your flight is included, capturing the landscapes and monuments from above.
A light breakfast with tea is served as part of the experience, easing the early-morning start.
Round-trip hotel transfers in an air-conditioned vehicle are included, with no need to arrange separate transport.
An English-speaking guide on board provides live commentary on each monument as it passes below.
A safety briefing is conducted at the launch site before every flight, following standard ballooning procedures.
Itinerary
Your driver collects you from your hotel and transports you to the West Bank launch site in an air-conditioned vehicle. The pre-dawn transfer is smooth and handled entirely by the tour operator.
On arrival at the launch site, the crew conducts a thorough safety briefing covering flight procedures and balloon behavior. You will then observe the inflation of the balloon before boarding the basket.
The balloon lifts off as the sun begins to rise over the Nile Valley, revealing the Temple of Hatshepsut set against limestone cliffs and the expansive necropolis of the Valley of the Kings. Your English-speaking guide points out landmarks and provides historical context throughout the flight.
The flight path covers the Valley of the Queens, which contains over 90 known tombs including that of Nefertari. The twin Colossi of Memnon, each carved from a single stone block and weighing approximately 1,000 tonnes, are visible from above as they stand at the former entrance of Amenhotep III's funerary temple.
The balloon descends under the guidance of the pilot and ground crew. After landing, you are transferred back to your hotel in Luxor, typically arriving before mid-morning.
