Snorkeling in the Gulf of Orosei from Cala Gonone
Explore crystal-clear waters, Posidonia meadows, and legendary monk seal dens along one of Sardinia's most pristine coastlines.
This Gulf of Orosei snorkeling experience offers direct access to some of the most biodiverse and visually striking underwater environments in the entire Mediterranean. Guided by an expert naturalist, you will navigate between Cala Gonone and Cala Sisine aboard a purpose-built inflatable vessel, stopping at three carefully selected sites. Each location reveals a distinct facet of Sardinia's remarkable marine ecosystem.
The waters of the Gulf of Orosei are exceptionally clear and relatively sheltered, making them accessible to participants with no prior snorkeling experience. Rocky seabeds give way to sweeping Posidonia oceanica meadows, both of which support a wide variety of Mediterranean fish species. Your guide will provide ecological context throughout the experience, helping you recognise what you observe beneath the surface.
The route passes through an area historically associated with the Mediterranean monk seal, one of the world's rarest marine mammals. Caves and rocky overhangs that once sheltered these animals remain a striking feature of the coastline. Between snorkeling stops, the journey by rubber dinghy along the sheer limestone cliffs of the gulf is itself a rewarding part of the outing.
