Scuba Diving Baptism in the Bay of Paraty
Your first breath underwater in one of Brazil's most sheltered and biodiverse bays
This scuba diving baptism in Paraty offers a carefully guided introduction to the underwater world, designed for complete beginners who want a safe, supervised first experience beneath the surface. Certified AINTD, PDIC, and PADI instructors accompany every participant throughout the session, from theory to descent.
Paraty sits inside the sheltered Bay of Ilha Grande, which means calm, clear waters are the norm year-round rather than the exception. The bay's protected geography makes it one of the most reliable and accessible diving destinations along the Brazilian coast, suitable even for those who are not confident swimmers.
The session covers multiple dive sites, including submerged wrecks and reef formations teeming with marine life. Participants spend up to 40 minutes underwater at depths between 4 and 8 meters, a range that is both manageable for first-timers and rich enough in biodiversity to leave a lasting impression.
Theory is delivered on board during the boat journey to the dive site, keeping the experience fluid and unhurried. By the time the anchor drops, participants are familiar with their equipment, the hand-signal communication system, and the correct breathing technique for open-water diving.

During the navigation to the dive sites, instructors cover the fundamentals: how to use the scuba equipment, how to breathe correctly underwater, and the hand-signal communication system used between divers and instructors.
Once anchored at the dive site, participants are fitted with their gear and run through a final equipment check alongside their instructor before entering the water.
Descend to between 4 and 8 meters in the company of a certified instructor. The dive lasts up to 40 minutes and passes through sites featuring wrecks and diverse marine life native to the Paraty bay.
