Griesalp UNESCO Alpine Valley E-Bike Tour from Interlaken
Pedal into the untouched heart of the Swiss Alps through the legendary Kiental valley
This full-day Griesalp UNESCO alpine valley e-bike tour takes riders through the scenic Kiental valley, a protected natural corridor within the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site, where dramatic waterfalls, glacial peaks, and a unique alpine lake reward every turn of the pedal. The route follows the Kiene river from Kiental village at 960 metres up to the tranquil settlement of Griesalp at 1,400 metres, tackling portions of the steepest public road in Europe. Electric assistance makes the ascent achievable for riders of moderate fitness while keeping the focus on the landscape rather than the exertion.
The Kiental is a valley that sees a fraction of the visitor traffic flowing through neighbouring Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, yet it holds scenery of equal scale. Towering summits including Blüemlisalp at 3,663 metres frame the upper valley, and the Tschingelsee — a wide river delta formed after a storm event in 1972 — creates a reflective foreground that photographers rarely find elsewhere in the region.
Beyond the visual rewards, the tour weaves cultural moments into the ride. A stop at a local mountain farm for fresh alpine cheese offers a direct connection to the pastoral traditions that have shaped this landscape for centuries. Lunch at the Golderli mountain restaurant or a self-arranged picnic in the surrounding meadows gives the group time to absorb the stillness of the high valley before the return descent.
Small groups of no more than eight riders ensure that the pace can be adjusted to suit everyone present. The guide monitors group energy throughout the day and can extend or trim the route accordingly, so the experience remains comfortable and genuinely enjoyable for every participant.

Itinerary
The day begins with pick-up from a designated meeting point in the Interlaken area. Participants meet their guide, select the appropriate e-bike and helmet, and receive a practical introduction to the tour route and riding guidelines before transport to the starting point.
Bikes and riders are transported to Kiental village, where a short training session allows everyone to get comfortable with their e-bike before the main ride begins. The gentle lower section of the valley provides an ideal warm-up alongside the clear waters of the Kiene river.
The route follows the valley floor through meadows and mountain forest toward the Tschingelsee, pausing at viewpoints for the Gwildibachfall and Dündenfall waterfalls. The group then begins the ascent along Europe's steepest public postbus road, with scenic stops to take in the dramatic surroundings before arriving at Griesalp.
An hour-long break at the Golderli mountain restaurant or in the open meadows surrounding Griesalp gives riders time to eat, rest, and take in the scale of the peaks overhead. This is the natural midpoint of the day before the exploration of the upper valley begins.
The group rides deeper into the glacial upper valley, passing views of Blüemlisalp and neighbouring 3,000-metre summits before stopping at a local farm for a tasting of authentic Swiss alpine cheese. The pace on this section is relaxed, with time to absorb the wild atmosphere of the high valley.
The return follows the same road back through the valley, where changing light and a different direction of travel reveal new perspectives on the landscape. Riders are transported back to Interlaken, concluding the tour in the early afternoon.
