The Rio Zairi canyoning experience takes you deep into a rugged river canyon fed by the headwaters of Monte Linas, where sculpted rock walls, natural slides, and a series of six abseils create a genuinely immersive encounter with the Sardinian wilderness. The route covers 700 metres of active terrain with a 90-metre height difference, making it accessible yet genuinely engaging.
Rio Zairi is part of the Monte Linas-Marganai regional natural park, a protected landscape in the Medio Campidano area of south-west Sardinia. The torrent has carved through limestone and granite over millennia, forming a series of pools, chutes, and vertical drops that together make this one of the island's most rewarding canyoning routes.
The activity is guided throughout by an experienced local professional who manages rope setups, provides technique instruction, and adapts the pace to the group. All technical equipment is included in the hire package, so participants need only bring appropriate personal clothing and a willingness to get wet.
With a total approach of roughly 30 minutes and a return walk of around 15 minutes, the majority of the session is spent inside the canyon itself, ensuring maximum time in the water and on the rock.

How the Experience Unfolds
Meet your guide at the designated point near Villacidro and receive a full safety and technique briefing. Equipment is fitted and checked before departure.
A 30-minute walk through the natural park brings you to the entry point of the Rio Zairi canyon. The guide explains the route and sets expectations for each section.
You enter the gorge and begin the first of six abseils, descending alongside active waterfalls over vertical drops of up to 12 metres. The guide manages all rope systems.
Between abseils, the route includes natural rock slides and sections where you navigate the torrent current through canyon pools. Jumping into clear pools is possible at designated safe points.
The last abseil completes the 90-metre total height difference, and the group exits the canyon at the lower end of the route having covered the full 700-metre length.
A 15-minute return walk brings the group back to the starting area, where equipment is returned and the session concludes.
