Cairo by Night: Al-Fishawi Cafe, Khan El Khalili, Al-Moez Street & Dinner at Al Azhar Park

This Cairo by Night Tour takes you through the most storied corners of the Egyptian capital as the sun sets and the city finds its rhythm, from the lantern-lit alleys of Khan El Khalili to the monumental open-air museum of Al-Moez Street, concluding with dinner at the celebrated Studio Masr restaurant inside Al Azhar Park.

The evening opens at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Nasr City, a pyramid-shaped tribute designed by Egyptian artist Sami Rafie and commissioned by President Anwar Sadat to honor the soldiers who fell in the War of Attrition and the October 1973 War. The site also marks the burial place of President Sadat himself, adding a layer of national significance that few monuments in Cairo can match.

From there, the route threads into the historic Al-Azhar district, where Al-Fishawi Cafe has been serving tea and conversation since 1797. Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz was a regular at these mirrored tables, and the atmosphere of the cafe preserves that literary and social tradition intact to this day.

The walk along Al-Moez Street presents one of the densest concentrations of medieval Islamic architecture anywhere in the world, stretching between Bab El Fottoh to the north and Bab Zuwaila to the south. Mosques, mausoleums, and schools dating back to the Mamluk era line both sides of the street, making it an outdoor museum that no single museum building could replicate.
