Barcelona Paella Cooking Class with Market Visit, Tapas, Sangria and Dessert
A hands-on journey through Spanish cuisine, from La Boqueria to your plate.
This award-winning Barcelona paella cooking class combines a guided market visit, a sangria workshop, seasonal tapas, and a full hands-on cooking session into one immersive three-hour experience. Beginners and seasoned home cooks alike leave with real technique, new friends, and a digital recipe pack to carry the flavors home. The class is designed for individuals, couples, families, and groups seeking a genuine connection to Spanish food culture.
The experience begins at Gastronomic Arts Barcelona, known as the GAB LAB, a professional tasting kitchen located steps from La Rambla. A professional chef guides guests through every stage, from selecting ingredients at the legendary Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria to mastering the art of socarrat, the prized crispy base that defines an authentic paella.
Beyond cooking, the session weaves in the social rituals of Spanish hospitality. Guests mix their own sangria, share freshly prepared tapas, and sit down together to enjoy the paella they have cooked. A classic Spanish dessert demonstration and a final celebratory toast round out the afternoon or evening in true Barcelona style.
The GAB LAB kitchen is centrally located in the Gothic Quarter, making it easy to combine with other city sightseeing. The itinerary flows naturally between indoor and outdoor settings, offering a layered view of the city alongside the culinary content.

How the Experience Unfolds
Guests check in at Gastronomic Arts Barcelona on Carrer de Lancaster, collect their apron and recipe pack, and meet the chef instructors and fellow participants. This creative kitchen space sets the stage for an interactive and social culinary session.
A ten-minute stroll down Barcelona's most iconic boulevard provides cultural context and a lively introduction to the city. The chef shares historical anecdotes and points out landmarks along the way to the market.
Spend thirty to forty minutes exploring Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria with your chef. Guests select premium local ingredients, learn how to identify quality seafood and produce, and pick up insider tips on Spanish culinary traditions. Note: on Sundays and public holidays, a mini historical food tour replaces the market visit.
Back in the kitchen, guests learn the history and preparation of sangria and mix their own glass. Freshly prepared seasonal tapas are served as an introduction to regional Spanish flavors before the main cooking begins.
Aprons on — guests cook an authentic paella under professional guidance, learning flavor layering, rice technique, and the secret to achieving socarrat. The group then sits down together to eat the paella they have prepared, followed by a Spanish dessert demonstration.
The session closes with a celebratory toast and the distribution of a digital recipe pack. Guests leave with the knowledge and confidence to recreate the experience at home.
