Day-by-Day Itinerary
Pickup in Reykjavik is followed by a full loop of the Golden Circle: Gullfoss Waterfall, the Strokkur geyser at the Geysir Geothermal Area, and the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park. Lunch is at Fridheimar Farm, known for sustainable tomato farming under geothermal greenhouses. A stop at a Geothermal Bakery introduces guests to the tradition of burying rye bread dough in hot ground to bake. The evening is spent at Midgard Base Camp with dinner at the on-site restaurant and the first opportunity to watch for the Northern Lights from the rooftop hot tub or sauna.
After breakfast, the group travels toward Vik to enter the Katla Ice Caves, formed within the glacier above one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. Lunch is at a local restaurant chosen by the guide along the South Coast. The afternoon includes Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, with its dramatic basalt columns and powerful surf, and additional South Coast sites depending on time and conditions. An optional visit to the LAVA Centre exhibition in Hvolsvollur is available on return. The evening includes dinner and a Northern Lights watch.
The third day takes guests into the highland interior aboard modified 4x4 Super Jeeps, crossing glacial rivers to reach Thorsmork, a valley flanked by three glaciers and steeped in Norse and local folklore. Short hikes are chosen based on group preference. Lunch is served from Midgard Restaurant lunchboxes amid the wilderness scenery. The late afternoon includes a visit to a Midgard team member's home for an authentic local experience, followed by a traditional Icelandic lamb dinner back at base camp, with vegetarian and vegan options also available.
The final morning begins with a glacier ice walk on Solheimajokull, where a guide explains glacial formation, volcanic influence, and the effects of climate change on the ice. The glacier lagoon at its base provides a quiet vantage point for reflection and photography. The route back to Reykjavik passes Skogafoss, with its 60-meter cascade and frequent mist rainbows, Seljalandsfoss, where a path leads behind the falls into a natural grotto when safe, and the hidden Gljufrabui Waterfall. Drop-off in Reykjavik is expected in the late afternoon.
