4 Day Nile Cruise Aswan to Luxor with Abu Simbel and Hot Air Balloon
Sail through ancient Egypt, soar over Luxor at sunrise, and walk among the pharaohs' greatest monuments.
This 4-day Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor takes travelers through a corridor of ancient temples, Nubian villages, and UNESCO World Heritage sites, combining leisurely river sailing with guided shore excursions and a dawn hot air balloon flight over the Theban plains.
The itinerary spans the full breadth of Upper Egypt's archaeological wealth, from the colossal rock-cut temples of Abu Simbel in the south to the vast hypostyle hall of Karnak Temple in the north. Each stop is selected to offer a layered understanding of pharaonic, Ptolemaic, and Nubian history along the Nile's west and east banks.
Accommodation aboard the cruise vessel provides a comfortable base between excursions, with meals, a sun deck for open-water views, and a Nubian cultural evening organized by the ship's crew. The pace is manageable throughout, rated easy and suitable for most fitness levels.
Expert-guided visits are complemented by local experiences such as a horse-carriage ride to Edfu Temple, fresh sugarcane juice in Luxor's market, and the passage through the historic Esna lock at dusk, offering moments of texture that go well beyond standard sightseeing.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Guests are collected from their hotel, train station, or airport in Aswan and transferred to the Nile for a motor-boat crossing to the island sanctuary of Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. The group then visits the Aswan High Dam before boarding the cruise vessel for check-in, lunch, and an evening Nubian party hosted by the ship's crew.
An early morning departure leads to Abu Simbel, where the twin temples of Ramesses II and Nefertari stand as Egypt's most iconic rock-cut monuments in Upper Egypt. Returning to Aswan by early afternoon, the cruise sets sail northward along the Nile with a stop at Kom Ombo to visit the dual-dedicated temple of Sobek and Horus before continuing toward Edfu.
Morning begins with breakfast on board before a horse-carriage ride to the remarkably well-preserved Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. The cruise then sails through the Esna lock as the sun lowers, arriving in Luxor at dusk where guests can explore the local market and sample traditional sugarcane juice.
The final day opens with a sunrise hot air balloon flight above Luxor's west bank, offering aerial views over the necropolis and the Nile. Ground tours then cover the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, the Colossi of Memnon, Karnak Temple, and Luxor Temple before guests are transferred to their onward accommodation, train station, or airport.
