4-Day Iceland Guided Tour: Glaciers, Volcanoes & South Coast
From the Golden Circle to glacier walks, discover Iceland's most dramatic landscapes in four immersive days.
This 4-day Iceland guided tour takes you deep into a country shaped by fire and ice, covering the Golden Circle, Þórsmörk valley, the South Coast, and a glacier walk on Sólheimajökull. Every transfer, meal, accommodation, and activity is included, so you can focus entirely on the experience. An expert local guide accompanies your group from pickup in Reykjavik to the final drop-off on day four.
Iceland's summer season transforms the country in remarkable ways. Extended daylight hours mean exploration need not stop at sunset, and guides may extend day tours well into the evening when conditions invite it. The highlands become accessible after mid-June, revealing rhyolite mountains, volcanic wilderness, and geothermal springs that are unreachable at other times of year.
Your base for three nights is Midgard Base Camp, a hub designed specifically for adventure travelers. The property includes a restaurant, bar, rooftop sauna, and hot tub, making it a natural gathering place after long days in the field. Local people frequent the space, giving it an atmosphere that feels connected to the region rather than purely tourist-facing.
Itinerary flexibility is built into this tour by design. If weather or road conditions shift — common in Iceland — guides discuss alternatives with the group and adapt accordingly. This approach ensures the experience remains high-quality regardless of what the Icelandic environment presents on any given day.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
After pickup in Reykjavik, the day covers the Golden Circle route: Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area, and Þingvellir National Park. Lunch is served at Friðheimar, a local tomato farm. The evening includes a guide briefing, dinner, and time in the rooftop hot tub and sauna at Midgard Base Camp.
Board a super 4x4 truck for the journey into Þórsmörk, passing the outlet glacier Gígjökull where the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption first emerged. Hikes in the valley are tailored to the group's energy level. The evening returns to Midgard Base Camp, with an optional visit to the local swimming pool or the Lava Centre.
Depending on the season and group preference, this day heads to Landmannalaugar Mountain Reserve for its colored rhyolite mountains and natural hot spring, or to Fjallabak Mountain Reserve for remote volcanic scenery. Between May 1 and June 20, a third option takes guests to off-the-beaten-track local spots with hidden waterfalls and river crossings. The afternoon allows time at the Base Camp's outdoor pool.
The final morning follows the South Coast, with possible stops at Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Reynisfjara black sand beach, the village of Vík, and Dyrhólaey island. The afternoon features a guided glacier walk on Sólheimajökull with all safety equipment provided. The tour concludes with a transfer back to Reykjavik, arriving in the late afternoon.
