3 Days 2 Nights White Desert and Bahariya Oasis Tour
Sleep under the stars among lunar limestone formations at the edge of the Sahara
This White Desert and Bahariya Oasis tour takes you deep into the Egyptian Sahara over three days, combining ancient oasis culture, volcanic black basalt landscapes, and the otherworldly chalk-white formations that define one of Africa's most remarkable natural regions. All meals, accommodation in desert camps, and entry fees are included from the moment you leave Cairo.
Bahariya Oasis serves as the gateway to this journey, offering a taste of traditional oasis life with date palm gardens, saltwater lakes, and the volcanic ridges of the Black Desert rising sharply from the surrounding plains. The contrast between the dark basalt terrain and the white chalk sculptures further south is one of the defining visual experiences of any trip to Egypt beyond the Nile Valley.
The route passes through geological highlights including Crystal Mountain, a quartz-studded ridge unlike anything else in the Western Desert, and the ancient Roman-era Green Spring at Aqabat, where travellers have rested for centuries. Two nights of desert camping allow guests to experience the silence and the star-filled skies that make this landscape so memorable.

Camp two nights in the open desert under some of the clearest skies in North Africa.
Cross off-road valleys on the approach to the White Desert, passing mushroom-shaped limestone formations.
Visit El Marssos Mountain and El Hez village with its cold spring before heading south toward Farafra.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Morning pickup from your Cairo hotel begins the roughly four-hour drive west to Bahariya Oasis. After check-in and lunch at the oasis, an afternoon tour covers the date palm gardens, salt lake, sand dunes, Pyramid Mountain, and the English Mountain viewpoint. The group then continues into the Black Desert to set up camp, with dinner prepared over the fire before an overnight stay under the stars.
After breakfast at the camp, the journey resumes south through the Black Desert, stopping at El Marssos Mountain before reaching El Hez village and its cold spring. Crystal Mountain and the Aqabat area are visited before the convoy heads off-road through desert valleys to the Green Spring, where lunch is served beside the Roman-era pool. The afternoon drive into the new White Desert ends at a scenic campsite among the chalk limestone formations for a second night under the stars.
Breakfast at the desert camp is followed by packing up and driving back north through the White Desert and Bahariya Oasis. A shower stop at the oasis is available before the return drive to Cairo, with arrival typically in the afternoon or early evening depending on road conditions.
