Itinerary
Fly from Cairo to Aswan and begin with the Aswan High Dam, one of the largest embankment dams in the world, constructed on the Nile between 1960 and 1970. You then visit the Unfinished Obelisk, abandoned in the granite quarries due to a crack, which would have been the largest obelisk in ancient Egypt had it been completed. The day concludes with a motorboat ride to the island temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, before an overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Aswan.
An early departure takes you south to Abu Simbel, where two rock-cut temples stand as the defining achievement of Ramesses II's reign. The Great Temple was dedicated to Ptah, Re-Hor-Akhty, Amun-Ra, and Ramesses II himself, while the smaller temple honors Queen Nefertari in the form of the goddess Hathor. After the visit, you return to Aswan and board a first-class train to Luxor, where a 4-star hotel awaits for the night.
The morning begins at the Karnak Temple complex on the East Bank, a vast religious site built across successive reigns and featuring the Avenue of Sphinxes, the Hypostyle Hall, the obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose I, the Temple of Amun, and the Sacred Lake. Luxor Temple, located in the center of the modern city, is also included in the East Bank visit.
The afternoon moves to the West Bank, starting with four royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, including those of Ramesses III, Ramesses IX, Merneptah, and the optional tomb of Tutankhamun, whose mummy remains in the valley. The mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari follows, built into the cliffs of the Theban hills. The Colossi of Memnon, two massive seated statues of Amenhotep III, mark the end of the tour before the return journey to Cairo.
