Snorkeling Trip at Hamata Islands From Marsa Alam
Discover untouched coral reefs and virgin island lagoons in one of Egypt's most protected marine parks.
This full-day Hamata Islands snorkeling trip takes you deep into the Hamata National Park, a protected coastal reserve 130 km south of Marsa Alam where the reefs remain largely untouched by mass tourism. The journey combines open-sea sailing, three separate snorkeling stops, and a rare opportunity to set foot on a pristine white-sand island beach.
The Hamata archipelago is composed of several small coral islands bordered by shallow lagoons and intricate reef systems. The diversity of marine life here is exceptional, with dense formations of hard and soft corals hosting hundreds of fish species that are rarely encountered at more frequented dive sites along the Red Sea coast.
Beyond the underwater scenery, the islands themselves support nesting colonies of seabirds, making the boat stop for a land excursion a worthwhile part of the day. The pace throughout the trip is relaxed and accessible to swimmers of most ability levels, as the sites are chosen for both their natural richness and calm water conditions.

Itinerary
A Sun Pyramids Tours representative collects you from your hotel in Marsa Alam. Snorkeling equipment is distributed during the transfer to Hamata marina, located approximately 130 km south of the city.
You board the tour boat at Hamata marina and set sail into the protected waters surrounding the island chain. The crew provides a brief orientation on the snorkeling sites and safety procedures.
The boat anchors at two successive reef sites around the three uninhabited islands. The coral formations here are dense and remarkably intact, supporting a vivid variety of tropical fish and invertebrates.
The boat docks at one of the islands, allowing you to walk the white-sand shoreline and observe the seabird colonies that inhabit the vegetation. The stop offers a different perspective on the natural character of the Hamata reserve.
A prepared lunch is served on the boat before sailing to the third and final snorkeling location. This site typically showcases a different reef profile from the earlier stops, rounding out the day's underwater experience.
The boat returns to Hamata marina where staff assist your disembarkation. A vehicle transfers you back to your hotel in Marsa Alam, concluding the trip.
