Itinerary
Your guide meets you outside the Istanbul Galata Port Terminal Building, holding a Curio Travel sign. After a short 200-meter walk to Tophane Tram Station, you board the tram and ride approximately 20 minutes to the Sultanahmet district.
The tour begins at the ancient Hippodrome, once the social and political center of Constantinople. You will see three historic monuments: the Obelisk of Theodosius (originally from Egypt), the Serpentine Column brought from Delphi, and the German Fountain gifted by Kaiser Wilhelm II.
A short walk from the Hippodrome leads to the Blue Mosque, whose interior is lined with more than 20,000 hand-painted Iznik tiles in shades of blue. You then visit Hagia Sophia, built in 532 AD, a structure that served successively as a Byzantine cathedral, an Ottoman mosque, a museum, and today functions once again as a mosque.
Topkapi Palace was the center of Ottoman imperial power from its construction in the 1460s until the 19th century. The visit includes the weapons section and the extraordinary collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelains, among the largest of its kind in the world.
The final stop is the Grand Bazaar, founded in 1461 and one of the earliest and largest covered markets ever built. Its 1,200-plus shops offer handmade carpets, jewelry, leather goods, ceramics, and souvenirs.
From Sultanahmet Tram Station, you ride back to Tophane and walk the final 200 meters to the port. The guide accompanies you to the point of departure, concluding all services.
