Rafting River Cetina from Makarska Riviera
Ride the rapids through one of Dalmatia's most dramatic gorges, starting from the scenic Makarska Riviera.
This full-day excursion delivers a genuine encounter with River Cetina rafting, guiding you from the Makarska Riviera along the Dalmatian coast to the canyon mouth at Omis, then up into the rugged limestone mountains where the descent begins. The journey combines scenic coastal driving, mountain terrain, and active time on the water for a well-rounded day out.
The Cetina River carves a deep path through the Dinaric Alps before spilling into the Adriatic at Omis, a compact historic town flanked by rocky cliffs. The gorge walls rise sharply on both sides, creating a natural corridor that shapes the character of the entire rafting route. This geography is part of what makes the descent memorable for those who appreciate both landscape and activity.
The rafting section itself runs for approximately three hours, moving through alternating sections of fast-moving rapids and calmer stretches where the water flattens out and the canyon opens up. Guides accompany each raft, managing safety and navigation while allowing participants to engage fully with the river. At the lower gorge, the pace slows and there is time to swim or walk along the riverbank before returning.
Difficulty is rated moderate, meaning no prior rafting experience is required but participants should be comfortable in moving water and reasonably physically active. All necessary equipment is provided at the launch point, including wetsuits, helmets and buoyancy vests fitted before departure.

Itinerary
The group assembles at the designated meeting point along the Makarska Riviera. The transfer heads north along the Dalmatian coast road towards the town of Omis.
The vehicle arrives in Omis, a coastal town positioned at the point where the Cetina River meets the sea. A brief stop allows participants to take in the gorge entrance and surrounding cliffs before continuing inland.
The group continues by road up the western slopes of the Dinaric Alps to reach the rafting launch point. The ascent provides views across the canyon and surrounding limestone landscape.
At the launch point, a qualified guide delivers a safety briefing covering paddle technique, raft positions and river protocol. Wetsuits, helmets and life vests are distributed and fitted before boarding.
The rafting section covers the canyon from the upper reach to the lower Cetina gorge, lasting approximately three hours. The route passes through rapids of varying intensity as well as calmer pools where the canyon widens.
