Private Northern Lights Super Jeep Tour from Reykjavik
Chase the aurora in a private 4x4 Super Jeep, away from city lights and into Iceland's remote wilderness.
The Northern Lights Super Jeep Tour offers an intimate, off-road pursuit of the aurora borealis across Iceland's dark winter landscape. With a maximum of six guests, this four-hour experience combines real-time forecasting, local expertise, and the flexibility of a 4x4 vehicle to put you in the best possible position to witness one of nature's most iconic spectacles.
Unlike large bus tours that follow fixed routes, this Super Jeep adventure adapts to changing weather conditions and aurora activity in real time. Your guide uses live cloud coverage maps and aurora forecasts to select the most promising locations each evening, often reaching remote spots inaccessible to standard vehicles.
The small group format ensures personal attention and a relaxed pace throughout the night. Guests are encouraged to ask questions, learn about the science behind the aurora, and simply absorb the silence of the Icelandic wilderness.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed on any given night. If the tour does not produce a sighting, a complimentary retry on the next available evening is offered as a courtesy.

How the Tour Unfolds
The tour departs from a central meeting point in Reykjavik after darkness falls. Your guide briefs the group on the evening's plan and current aurora conditions before setting off.
The Super Jeep leaves the city lights behind and moves toward pre-selected areas based on live weather and aurora data. Routes shift dynamically to chase clear skies and optimal KP index readings.
At each stop, guests step out to scan the sky and take in the remote Icelandic landscape. The guide explains aurora formation and helps guests with camera settings for aurora photography.
While waiting under the stars, guests enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate. This quiet interval is often when the lights make their most memorable appearance.
After approximately four hours, the Super Jeep returns to the city. If conditions allow, additional stops may be made on the way back to catch any lingering aurora activity.
