Private Luxor West Bank Valley of the Kings & Hatshepsut with Hot Air Balloon
Soar over Luxor at dawn, then walk among the tombs and temples of ancient Egypt's most powerful rulers.
This private Valley of the Kings tour takes you deep into the ancient Theban necropolis, where 62 pharaohs were laid to rest in elaborately painted rock-cut tombs, before continuing to the grand temple terraces of Queen Hatshepsut and the colossal statues of Amenhotep III. A dedicated Egyptologist guide accompanies you throughout, providing expert context at every site.
The day opens with an optional hot air balloon flight over the West Bank, offering a sweeping aerial perspective of the Nile floodplain, the Valley of the Kings, and the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari before the crowds arrive. Once on the ground, you move directly into the valley's interior, entering the richly decorated burial corridors of several royal tombs including those of Ramesses III, Ramesses IX, and Merneptah.
After the West Bank sites, the tour crosses to the East Bank for an extended visit to the Karnak Temple complex, one of the largest religious building projects in history. The afternoon concludes with a transfer back to your hotel, airport, or train station, making the itinerary well suited to arrivals, departures, or mid-stay excursions from Luxor.

Itinerary
The day begins with an optional sunrise hot air balloon ride above the Theban hills, sweeping over the Valley of the Kings, Deir el-Bahari, and the Nile floodplain. This aerial perspective sets the scene for the sites visited on the ground throughout the rest of the day.
Your Egyptologist guide leads you into the Theban necropolis, where you enter several decorated royal tombs from the New Kingdom period. Included tombs typically feature the burial chambers of Ramesses III (KV11), Ramesses IX, and Merneptah (KV8), each with distinct painted reliefs drawn from funerary texts such as the Book of Gates and the Litany of Ra. Entry to Tutankhamun's tomb is available as an optional add-on.
The tour continues to the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, the only woman to rule ancient Egypt as pharaoh. The three-tiered colonnaded structure is integrated into the natural cliff face and features painted relief scenes documenting her reign, trade expeditions, and divine lineage.
Before crossing back to the East Bank, you pause at the Colossi of Memnon, two 18-meter quartzite statues of Amenhotep III that have stood at the entrance of his mortuary temple for over 3,300 years. Lunch with a Nile view follows, providing a relaxed break between the two halves of the day.
The afternoon is dedicated to the vast Karnak complex, ancient Egypt's most extensive religious site. Highlights include the Avenue of Sphinxes, the Hypostyle Hall with its forest of 134 sandstone columns, the obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose I, the Temple of Amun decorated with lotus and papyrus motifs, the Granite Scarab of Amenhotep III, and the Sacred Lake.
After the Karnak visit, your private driver transfers you to your preferred drop-off point in Luxor. The itinerary is designed to accommodate both overnight guests and travelers with onward connections.
