Gullfoss ranks among Iceland's most impressive waterfalls, where the Hvítá river falls in two dramatic steps into a narrow gorge. Nearby, the Haukadalur geothermal field hosts the original Geysir — from which all geysers take their name — and the highly active Strokkur, which erupts reliably every five to ten minutes.
Brúarfoss is a waterfall distinguished by its unusually vivid turquoise colour, caused by mineral-rich glacial springs that feed the river across a lava rock landscape. A short stop at Efsti-Dalur farm follows, where ice cream is produced on-site from the milk of the farm's own herd.
