Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your guide meets you at Izmir Airport and begins the tour with St. Polycarp Church in Smyrna, the second of the Seven Churches and a site associated with early Christian martyrdom. The group then travels to Pergamon, an ancient Greek city in Mysia, to visit the acropolis and the ruins of the converted Byzantine church dedicated to St. John. Overnight in Pergamon.
Departing Pergamon after breakfast, the day covers three of the Seven Churches: Thyatira, which maintained a Christian community until 1922; Sardis, addressed directly in the Book of Revelation; and Philadelphia, identified as the sixth of the seven churches. Each site is approximately one hour apart by road, allowing time at each location. Overnight in Hierapolis.
The morning begins at Hierapolis, an ancient Greek city built over thermal springs whose ruins include an archaeological museum and the Tomb of Philip the Apostle. The tour then continues to Laodicea, one of the earliest centers of Christianity in the Roman province of Asia and the subject of Revelation 3:14-22. The natural terraces of Pamukkale are adjacent to the Hierapolis site. Overnight in Kusadasi.
The final day covers Ephesus ancient city, the Temple of Artemis site, the Basilica of St. John, and the House of the Virgin Mary near Selcuk. Ephesus was one of the great cities of the Roman Republic and a key center of early Christianity. After the visits, the tour concludes with your departure from Turkey.
