Nauyaca Waterfall Hiking or 4x4 Ride Tour
Journey into the heart of the tropical rainforest to discover one of Costa Rica's most breathtaking natural wonders.
The Nauyaca Waterfall tour takes you deep into the lush mountains of the Puntarenas region, where a dramatic two-tiered cascade plunges into an emerald green swimming pool beneath the rainforest canopy. Whether you choose to hike, ride on horseback, or travel by 4x4 truck, this full-day experience delivers raw natural beauty and an unforgettable sense of discovery.
The trail winds through dense tropical forest along a route that reveals the authentic landscape of Costa Rica's Pacific coast hinterland. Rivers, wildlife, and sweeping mountain views accompany you on the journey, building anticipation for the moment the falls finally come into view.
On arrival at the base of the falls, the rewards are immediate. The large natural pool invites you to swim in cool, clear water while the twin cascades thunder overhead, creating a scene that few destinations in Central America can match.
The moderate difficulty rating means the experience is accessible to reasonably active travelers while still feeling like a genuine expedition rather than a casual stroll. The flexibility to choose your preferred mode of travel makes this tour suitable for a wide range of fitness levels and interests.

Itinerary
The tour begins at the meeting point in the Dominical area, where your guide provides an orientation and you select your preferred mode of travel. The group heads toward the trailhead that marks the entrance to the Nauyaca protected zone.
The route climbs through tropical rainforest along a path that crosses streams and offers views across the Pacific coastal mountains. Hikers travel on foot while those who chose the 4x4 or horseback options follow the same route by their selected means.
After approximately two to three hours of travel, the twin-tiered waterfall comes into view. The upper and lower falls together drop over 40 meters, and the scene on arrival is immediately striking.
Time is set aside to swim in the natural pool, explore the base of the falls, and enjoy a packed lunch surrounded by forest. This is the longest stop of the day and offers a genuine opportunity to relax in a remote natural setting.
The group retraces the trail back through the forest to the trailhead. The return trip offers a different perspective as the light shifts through the canopy during the afternoon hours.
The tour concludes at the original meeting point after approximately eight hours in total. Guests depart with their own transport or prearranged transfer.
