Wine Tasting near the Aquarium of Genoa
Discover rare Ligurian varietals in the heart of Genoa with a guided tasting led by a local expert.
This Genoa wine tasting is a one-hour introduction to the wines and winemaking traditions of Liguria, held steps away from the iconic Aquarium of Genoa. Guests learn to evaluate wines through sight, smell, and taste using techniques drawn from professional sommelier training.
Liguria is one of Italy's smallest and least-known wine regions, yet it produces distinctive wines shaped by steep coastal terroir and centuries-old farming traditions. This session places those wines in context alongside broader Italian and French winemaking references, giving participants a richer understanding of what makes the region unique.
The format is deliberately approachable, designed for curious travelers rather than specialists. Participants leave with practical skills they can apply at any table, along with a clearer sense of Liguria's place in the European wine landscape.

What to Expect
The session opens with an overview of Liguria as a wine-producing region, including its geography, climate, and how it compares to neighboring French appellations and other Italian regions.
Before tasting begins, your host walks through the three pillars of professional wine evaluation: visual analysis, olfactory assessment, and gustatory judgment. You will apply each method throughout the session.
Two Ligurian white wines are poured, drawn from varietals such as Pigato, Vermentino, and Lumassina IGT Colline Savonesi. Each wine is discussed in terms of tasting notes, viticulture, and producer history.
The tasting continues with two red wines, potentially including Granaccia, Rossese, and Ormeasco di Pornassio, all from the DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente. Food and wine pairing suggestions accompany each pour.
Each wine is served alongside local cheese and ham. The relaxed final portion of the session gives guests time to ask questions, revisit favorite pours, and discuss what they have learned.
