Horseback Riding for Experts in Porto Ferro and Lake Baratz
Ride through pine forests, coastal dunes, and the shores of Sardinia's only natural lake on an unforgettable expert trail.
This horseback riding excursion in Alghero takes experienced riders through one of north-western Sardinia's most scenic and protected landscapes, from the freshwater shores of Lake Baratz to the golden sands of Porto Ferro beach. The route covers approximately 12 kilometres, threading through a fragrant pine forest and along coastal dune paths within the Porto Conte Park.
The trail passes through Cala Bantine Sale, offering riders a striking panoramic outlook toward Capo Caccia's towering limestone cliffs before descending through the dunes. Where sea and weather conditions allow, riders have the chance to enter the water with their horses at Porto Ferro, a rare and genuinely memorable moment on any equestrian itinerary.
The return leg follows protected pathways skirting the shoreline of the Lake Baratz nature reserve, completing a circular route that blends coastal scenery with inland natural heritage. A short pre-departure briefing ensures the guide can assess each participant's riding ability before the group sets off.

Itinerary
Before departure, the guide conducts a short briefing to assess each rider's level of experience. This ensures the group is well-matched and that the ride proceeds at an appropriate pace for all participants.
The route begins in the forest surrounding Lake Baratz, heading through shaded pine trails toward the scenic cove of Cala Bantine Sale. From this vantage point, riders can take in the panoramic view across to Capo Caccia on the horizon.
Riders continue along the Porto Conte Park trail, crossing the coastal dune system that borders Porto Ferro beach. When sea conditions allow, horses and riders may enter the water together at the shoreline.
The trail continues toward the Torre Bianca watchtower, offering broad views of the coastal landscape. This section follows open paths with the sea visible to one side and protected parkland on the other.
